Endings (originally released in 2003) is classic/signature Scattershot, a lesson in musical paradoxes, seamlessly married: Minimalist yet vast and soaring, synthesized but rooted in organic sampling, and an elegantly compelling chord structure that feels as though it could loop infinitely, like some kind of harmonic palindrome (perhaps there's a subtle titular wink here, to be interpreted as either simply emotional narrative, or a reference to its apparently 'unending' möbius strip of a melody). The song was so captivating that Layered instrumental brethren Cougar included a cover on their 2nd album (Patriot), marking the only non-original composition in the band's oeuvre.

The hauntingly beautifully b-side, Visible Cities, orbits around another limitless melody (this time a languid bassline), as lonely harmonics glide above the room like Philip Glass having a dub hallucination, lilting and crystalline, each note suffused with subdued emotion, perpetually hinting that relief is just around the corner.

This never-released single version includes sparkling new 2021 mixes/masters from the artist himself.
